The marketplace: after the mint

Follow a work from its first release to a later sale, with ownership, price, and settlement kept visible.

Select an underlined word to see what it means.

In this guide
A launch begins the collection. A market continues it.A listing needs real ownership.Follow the sale all the way through.Let collecting lead somewhere.

“I found the work. What happens when someone sells it again?”

Separate minting a new token from listing an existing one, then follow a simple sale.

TOKEN LOCATION / EXAMPLE

Sale contract · escrow

The holder reviews a transfer of the existing token into the listing contract. The price and expiry belong to this listing.

Same token. Same work. A new chapter.
Illustrated ERC-721 resale. This example does not connect a wallet, list a token, or make a purchase.

A launch begins the collection. A market continues it.

The launchpad creates the release and its mint rules. A marketplace helps a holder offer an existing token to someone else. The artwork, its creator, and its verification history should remain connected through that change.

A listing needs real ownership.

In the current EVM marketplace contract, a fixed-price listing places a supported ERC-721 token in escrow. Escrow means the contract holds it while the listing is active. The holder reviews that transfer in their wallet.

The listing records price, expiry, and a version. Buyers need the current listing state; an old page can show an offer that has changed.

FOR EXAMPLE

Tidal Study #7 finds its next collector

Its holder offers the existing token at a chosen price.

A valid purchase settles under the contract’s terms and transfers the token to the recipient. The mint supply has not increased.

What this means for you: A resale changes ownership, not the identity of the stored artwork.

Follow the sale all the way through.

Check the token recipient and the sale’s payment breakdown. Bids, accepted offers, cancellations, and balances have their own contract rules. A successful button click is only the start; the receipt and current state tell you what happened.

Implementation scope

KeelMarket currently targets standards-compliant ERC-721 tokens with native ETH settlement. It supports listing, buying, bids, accepting bids, and cancellation. The browser and indexer help people use and find it; contract state governs the sale. This does not imply that every edition format, chain, or public marketplace UI is available.

Let collecting lead somewhere.

A market page should lead back to the artist, collection, and inspectable work. The IndexThe sealed inventory and presentation records that identify the work's pieces and their Marks. This protocol layer is different from the site's search indexer. For exampleThe inventory says this revision uses this sketch and this exact library version.Full glossary entry → and site indexer make those relationships discoverable where supported. A sale badge does not replace file verification.
